AT A GLANCE
- Touch screen phone
- Lightweight (122g)
- 5MP camera/video
- 32GB storage
My first impressions of dislike and unease unfortunately stayed for the duration of my review. I did try to keep an open mind and even went so far as getting my usual phone hidden away in order to keep my SIM in the X6. Although I'm making the X6 out to be a completely useless phone (which is not my intention), there were a few things that I did like.
The Good
1. Great battery life
Although I don't normally spend a lot of time on my phone during the day (work keeps me seriously busy), my normal phone eats my battery. It was awesome to find out that with my minimal use, the battery lasted a couple days.
2. Camera
This little camera packs quite a punch! I was so impressed with the quality of the photos taken that I'd keep the phone just for this!
3. Slim design passed the bra and handbag test
What, you might ask, does this mean... Well being a very busy person, and having a wardrobe with pants that don't all "own" pockets, it is essential that a phone pass my "bra test" - lodging the phone in my bra cup. I am delighted to say that it passed this test with flying colours! It also passed the test of being able to fit in that silly little pocket that is made in most handbags. Score!
The Bad
1. You can only charge with a charger
When I was given this phone to review, one key item was forgotten from the box - the charger. I thought that, being the 21st century and all, that I would be able to charge the phone with the USB cable provided. I was wrong. I definitely think this should be changed on Nokia's side to allow for ease of charging for those on the road or running out of battery at the office. My second bone of contention is the fact that I thought I could use any old Nokia charger their chargers are interchangeable. Again I was wrong. In waiting for the correct charger to be sent to me, I borrowed one of my boss' chargers that had the same small pinhead charger. Although it fit in the necessary hole, it did not charge.
2. Double-clicking
Although the touch screen is very responsive to the touch (big plus for someone who wants something now!!) the need to "double-tap" to select made navigation super irritating. I did however find this useful when scrolling through my contacts as you had to "double-tap" to make a call (this saved me many an accidental call).
The Ugly
1. Connecting wirelessly
As I'm still a pleb with a prepaid account, the first thing I did was try connect to my home's wireless internet in order to save my airtime. It was quite easy to do once I figured out the navigation, but it was difficult knowing whether or not I was connected. There wasn't a "you are now connected" banner that popped onto the screen. The other hindrance I had was not staying connected to this wireless connection, and I only found this out by the quickly diminishing airtime balance. I did research a bit but can still not say with certainty how to connect and stay connected to a wireless internet source.
2. The headphones
The greatest aspect about these headphones is the noise canceling feature that's installed. This means that you can listen to your music at any sound level and not being able to hear your fiance in the background asking if it's his turn yet to test the phone. The reason why I've placed this in the ugly section is because these headphones are ugly! Not only are the headphones used while listening to music, they are also meant for hands-free use while driving. I, for one, would not be caught dead driving with these on top of my wonderfully GHD'ed hair.
3. Phone restore
Being the meticulous person I am, I would not have realised the headache in restoring the factory settings of the phone had I not had to clear all aspects of me from it. It was quite the process. You start by putting in the secret-but-not-so-secret Nokia security code but can only continue once all applications are closed. The restore does not delete your smses, it does not delete any contacts you've saved to the phone, it does not delete any email boxes setup, it does not delete any applications downloaded. On the brightside, if your toddler got hold of your phone and by mistake restored the phone, at least you wouldn't have lost everything.
