In a world where it's hustling and bustling and a million and ten different devices to operate when you finally get home from your long day at work, it's good to sit in front of the (as my babiest brother calls it) 'veletision'.
It's even better when you don't have to operate individual remotes for the XBOX, DSTV, Plasma and hifi all at once, just in order to watch another episode of True Blood saved on the hard drive (which also requires its own remote, incidentally).
Enter the Logitech Harmony 300i Universal Remote. This thing, this thing of beauty and simplicity is, I can tell already is about to rock my world in the nerdiest possible way. Not only am I now able to sit on the couch with a cuppa, but all it takes for me to get my vampire series on is a click of ONE REMOTE to control 5 devices. No more hunting for the missing remote that's usually hidden under the couch, what a win!
First few impressions:
- It can program over covers 225,000 devices from more than 5000 brands
- It's very well priced, you can pick one up for around R270 from any online or tech store
- Despite its lowly price tag, it doesn't look at all cheap. The 300i is nicely weighted and comfortable in the hand. Finished in glossy black (a matte-black version dubbed the Harmony 300 is available in the US), it's prone to finger prints and smudges, but its buttons are smooth and it's very purdy.
- Best highlight of all? Set up takes two minutes! Plug it into your computer's USB port, select the devices you need to connect to and DONE!
So far so good, I can't wait to tell you how much more this improves my life once I've gotten used to it.
