In my opinion, the days of the stand-alone GPS may be numbered. Lately most smartphones come with built-in mapping or GPS technology, whether natively or through apps. The only issue is, most in-phone GPS’s are a bit useless to be honest. They’re usually clumsy and very few of them talk to you (a must if you don’t want to crash while trying desperately to "follow the purple line").

Not the TomTom iPhone app. This app is so good I keep forgetting I’m using a phone. Well, until it rings, that is. It not only talks to you, it even reads out street names. It has day/night settings, you can save locations with one click and you can download novelty voices (Warning: He sounds cute but Yoda reads out locations backwards, very confusing when driving at 80km/h).
So far, this is the best GPS I’ve ever used. It helps that you can buy a handy car kit too, so you don't have to balance it between your knees while driving.

Why I like it so far?
- Easy to install and update through the iTunes Store
- Comprehensive GPS features
- The app only costs $59.99, much cheaper than the equivalent GPS
- It talks and reads out street names
- Car kit with car charger and window mount available
- Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad (requires iOS 3.0 or later)
