As you all know, I’ve recently started a new job that involves some travelling, and as a result of this one of my friends told me to check out this app. The full version is available in the app store for a mere $1.99, and I have to tell you, it’s worth every cent I paid for it. There is also a ‘lite’ free version, but it doesn’t contain nearly as much information. Seriously, the $1.99 is definitely worth it!
City Maps 2Go is the perfect offline traveler’s guide. There are 3 100 maps available for download and they take up very little space. The only time you need access to the web is when you want to actually download the map. This is easily done while you’re doing your planning. You can search for streets and points of interest while you are in the offline mode AND you can bookmark places and add your own tags and pins as you go along so you can find your way back should you have to.
If you do have access to the internet while using the maps you can locate your position using GPS, which is rather useful if you have no idea where you are.
Getting started on this app is as easy as 1…2….3
- Download the app from the iTunes App Store
- Select a country from the endless list available
- Select a city to download and wait
- The app will automatically take you to ‘My maps’. This is where all the maps you have downloaded will be saved
- Click on your map and voila! You can navigate around any city with ease. You can zoom in, search for streets and if you do have access to the web, even use it as a GPS
All I can say is this app is one of my best app store purchases yet. It has stopped me from getting lost in my new, temporary hometown on many occasions. Ideal for holidays and business trips alike. This one definitely being added to my top iPhone apps list.
