Easy K53 – App Review

QUICK LOOK

  • Use it on iPad or iPhone
  • Learn the road rules through interactive multiple choice questions
  • Great diagrams that help you visualise the car
  • Take example tests to determine whether you are ready
  • Choose either motorcycle, light motor vehicle or heavy motor vehicle tests
  • Track your progress and learn on the go

Ever had to take a theoretical exam to test practical knowledge? This app is one that successfully helps you visualise driving practically, so that you can pass your theory-based learner’s license test. Learning to drive can be very intimidating, especially for teens, but the Easy K53 app makes trying to accumulate this skill a lot easier, and thus, less stressful.

Easy K53 allows you to choose the type of vehicle you are learning to drive, either motorcycle, light motor vehicle or heavy motor vehicle and offers you the option of either testing your knowledge of road signs, the rules of the road, or general category skills, such as the controls of the car, truck or motorcycle.

You can easily track your progress in all of these fields and retake questions to learn the correct answers. Once you are comfortable that you have absorbed as much knowledge as you can, the app gives you a test based on the actual paper-based Learner’s License tests given by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

You can use this section to determine the likelihood of passing your learner’s test.

Easy K53 also offers you additional resources in the form of ‘Test Day Tips and Hints’ and ‘About the K53 Learner’s License’ so that you have an extra advantage on testing day.

(And, if you’re not sure what you’re doing or have questions about the app, you can always e-mail the developers.)

Right now, the app is only available to for iPads, iPhones and the iPod Touch (from the iTunes Store), but it is coming free to the Android Marketplace in September.

Though I’m well past the age where I need to learn to drive (or at least I hope I am – the people I encounter on the road may disagree), I wish I had been privy to an app like this when I was doing my learners. As someone who has failed their Learner’s License test (only once, mind you), I know how hard it can be to understand a practical skill like driving and translate that knowledge into theory so you can answer paper-based questions.

Turns ons

  • Exceptionally easy functionality
  • Very intuitive
  • Affordable, especially for teens of all economic backgrounds
  • A practical study tool to use in conjunction with books

Turn offs

  • A link to videos of correct and incorrect driving behaviour may give a practical insight into the theory of driving.

Price: $3.99 (approx R28.00)
