Sony Walkman Digital Media Player - In-depth Review

QUICK LOOK

  • Easy to use and set up portable music player
  • It is tiny enough to fit in any handbag
  • It only needs to be charged for 3 minutes to give 90 minutes of usage
  • Comes in a choice of vibrant colours with a matching colour power illuminator

It’s cute, it’s pink and it’s tiny… oh! And it is your new favourite mini music player. Trust me on that one. Meet the Sony Walkman NWZ-B160. The name is really is a mouthful so let us just shorten it to the Sony Walkman shall we?

Apple dominates the portable music player market and with good reason, that said, their iPod Shuffle leaves a lot to be desired and that is exactly where the Sony Walkman fits in oh-so-perfectly.

The Sony Walkman is not just a music player; it boasts a radio and voice recorder, perfect for just about every situation. Oh and it only weighs 28g and is no more than 10cm in length, making it tiny enough to fit in any handbag. While it is rather small, it is so without feeling miniscule and fits any girl’s lifestyle or mood. (Perfect, I know!)

The set up of the Walkman is as easy as can be; simply plug in the device, install the software and you are sorted. All of this takes about 10 minutes, which is great! Also, the USB port is mounted directly in the device, so there no needed to bring cable to charge it or to copy a file. Did I mention how simple it was to use?

As for aesthetics, the Walkman has it, from the array of colours to the sleek and slim design it is all there. It also has everything you need for great quality of music. Think features like a full tracking display, a bass boosting button that you can toggle quickly and Sony’s song search, which is illuminated on the screen, making it easier for you to find all the songs on your play list. The fact the power illuminator matches the player’s colour? A lovely little touch.

If you are a girl in a hurry, never fear, the Walkman can be charged for only 3 minutes to give you 90 minutes of usage. And yes, is it true, I tried it while on the go for a few days. As for transferring music the drag-and-drop file transfers makes it a pleasure to use. Oh and size wise the Walkman is available in 2GB or 4GB models. Great for just about any music collection.

Overall, the Sony Walkman NWZ-B160 is the perfect solution to all of those who are on the go and want something different and fun. It is a rather great competitor to Apple's Shuffle; in that sense Sony has won the war, with a host of impressive features I would certainly take it over the Shuffle. As for taking over the rest of the portable music device market it is not quite there yet.
