If you're a new iPhone owner, browsing the iTunes App Store can be frustrating because like it or not, there are hundreds of iPhone apps available for download and not all of them are good. You tend to go crazy the first time out, snatching up applications left right and centre - applications you might not even use! This achieves nothing but cluttering up your iPhone. Trust me - eventually this will annoy you and then you'll want to know which ones to keep and which ones to toss.
Here are my TOP 5 recommended iPhone apps that I love and use every day:
1. Twitter (The official Twitter app)
Price: Free
There are a lot of iPhone applications that allow you to update and check your twitter account, some free and some not, but this one is definitely my favourite. It's the official application and the folks over at Twitter know that you need an application that's not overly flashy and complicated. This application gets the job done. Perfect for staying in touch with your Twitter friends on the go.
2. WhatsApp Messenger (IM app)
Price: 0.99c
This application is compatible with BlackBerry, Android and selected Nokia users and allows you to send fast messages to your friends utilising push notifications. WhatsApp uses your internet connection (EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi) so check with your service provider for any data charges that might apply to your internet usage. I've written about WhatsApp previously, so check out my walk-through and you'll see there's a reason why this application is so very popular.
3. IMDb (Movies and TV app)
Price: Free
Like the website, this app provides information about movies, TV shows, celebrities and latest DVD and movie release dates. It also allows you to watch trailers and browse movie galleries. I'm a movie and TV show fanatic so I find that this app comes in very handy when I need information about a show I'm discussing with someone or if I need to show my fiancé a trailer of a movie I'm trying to convince him to watch with me. He's currently refusing to watch Burlesque with me but that's not really relevant is it? Seriously though, have you seen the trailer?
4. Dropbox (file sharing and syncing app)
Price: Free
This app links to your Dropbox account so if you don't have one you'll need to create one (for free). Sync and share your files online, share and send files via email and view your documents wherever you are! Easy peasy.
Read the Girl Guides How To for complete instructions on getting going with Dropbox.
5. Facebook (social networking app)
Price: Free
This is pretty much a no-brainer. Update your status, check your profile and the profiles of your friends and family, upload photos, check your private messages and chat with other online friends all while staying mobile. Why? Because it's easier than trying to access the Facebook site from your iPhone all the time, and uses push notification so you don't have to constantly check for new activity.
If you have any iPhone application recommendations, why don't you drop me a comment and let me know?
