Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand - Review

QUICK LOOK

  • USB powered so no batteries required
  • Can hold up to a 17” laptop
  • Can be placed on a desk or your lap
  • 3-year manufacturer warranty

2Compact. Easy to use. No batteries required. Nothing to install. Sounds like the kinda gadget I could give to my mom or dad.

The Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand is a simple stand that is powered using your laptop’s USB port. Its power consumption is low, almost insignificant, so don’t fret about your laptop’s battery getting eaten up. And when not in use, the short USB cable is tucked neatly into its base so no damage could occur with it dangling about.

No other power cables, or adaptors, means it’s portable. And since it’s so light, you can actually pick up the stand with your laptop still on if you feel like moving from your desk chair to the sofa.

The stand has a unique wave design or “curved bottom” and, with the help of the built-in fan, the hot air is pushed up and channelled away from your desk or lap.

This is a very important aspect when you consider the link between male testicular cancer and using a laptop. Studies have shown that increasing the temperature in the groin region can decrease the percentage of viable “swimmers” in men. So if you’re wanting to be in the running to be a dad, then I’d suggest using your laptop at your desk, or buying this little gadget.

And don’t think that as a lady you’re out of harm’s way. Studies too have shown that women who use a laptop on their lap for extended periods of time can end up with skin irritations on their thighs. I for one love my shorts and mini-skirts so I’ll definitely be keeping my laptop on my desk or my Belkin Laptop Cooling Stand.

Another important design element to take note of is the stand’s gentle slope. This improves typing comfort and reduces wrist pain associated with typing. The slope also raises the screen reducing neck pain from incorrect posture.

Who would have thought that this little, unobtrusive gadget could be such a winner!

@KarenL, I did not do any formal temperature measurements but I did notice that my laptop was cooler to the touch than without the stand.

Does it actually work in cooling your laptop though?
You highlighted the aesthetics well, but does it do the job? Did you check temperature stats before and after use?
